The Lakeside Speedway is a half-mile asphalt oval track, featuring USRA Modifieds, Grand Nationals, B-Mods, and Factory Stocks. The track has been around for 40 years and has hosted several national touring series. Its events are held every Friday night. There are no admission fees, so there is nothing more fun than racing.
The first race was on April 7, 1907. The race was won by Oldfield, who had been barnstorming across the country in his Peerless car known as the “Green Dragon.” He often gave exhibitions, and many of his followers came out to watch him race. One of the most famous drivers in the history of the Lakeside Track was Barney Oldfield, who began his career riding a bicycle. Born in Wauseon, Ohio, Oldfield was determined to win, and he did!
The track is also a popular place to catch live music and theme nights. Open from April to September, Lakeside Speedway is part of the Kansas City community, hosting a variety of races throughout the year. The speedway hosts national touring series, including NASCAR. It is open to the public and offers weekly races in the USRA Modified, Stock Car, and Factory Stock categories. The United States Racing Association and the International Motor Contest Association sanction the tracks.
There are many historical sites in the city. The Lakeside Historical Society is currently documenting the history of the Lakeside Auto Speedway. You can view the historical documents and period photos that document the raceway’s history. The Lakeside Historical Society will host a history exhibition at its museum that will showcase the history of the speedway. This is a wonderful place to learn about the past, as well as enjoy the historic charm of the town.
