The new playground at the Cherry Blossom Welcome Center in Branch Brook Park in Essex County is now open! The Cherry Blossom Festival takes place from April 2-April 10, 2022. It begins with an official NJBA bike race and a USATF-certified 10K on April 3. The park features an audio tour on your cell phone. The cherry blossoms will bloom in early April, but the festival will run until April 10.
During the festival, there will be live music, kids’ activities, a crafter’s marketplace, and Japanese cultural demonstrations. The Cherry Blossom Welcome Center underwent an $840,000 renovation in April 2008 and reopened to the public in November 2008. The center’s new look has helped raise awareness of the Japanese Flowering Cherry Blossom Tree. A reproduction of a historic Octagon Shelter was also built for $353,510 in Branch Brook Park’s Southern Division. An $11 million modernization project also restored the park’s park avenue bridge.
