The Heard Wildlife Management Area selected a 6.75-acre prairie for the Restored Prairie. Restored Prairie is a rolling meadow that once had an assortment of native grasses and forbs, but is now dominated by non-native Johnson grass and a variety of invasive saplings. The Heard staff and volunteers fought against the growth of these plants through a combination of manual weeding, chemical applications, and well-timed mowing. In addition to removing unwanted plants, they seeded the site with native seeds to help the prairie repopulate.
